Boarding schools want students to stay in touch with family — without loose phones, browsers or app stores in the hostel.
Shivnex turns a tablet into a single locked kiosk that does one thing: call a parent the school has approved, while staff stay in the loop.
One app, locked
Android Device-Owner, lock-task style kiosk: no browser, no store, no settings escape. It re-locks on every boot.
Server-authorised calls
Every call is approved on the server before it starts — guardian, time window and limits.

How it works
From school card to parent’s phone
Step 1: Student signs in
Scan a school card, or enter an ID or PIN at the hostel kiosk.
Step 2: The server decides
Approved guardian, calling window and limits are checked on the server. The tablet itself is not trusted.
Step 3: Parent picks up
The call rings on the Shivnex parent app, from Google Play or the App Store.
Step 4: Staff stay in view
The school console records who called, when and for how long — not the call itself.

- The tablet is never trusted — the server authorises every call.
- Design posture: call metadata (who, when, how long), not call recordings.

- The lock lives on the device and re-locks on every boot.
- Calls need the server’s approval, so without a connection the kiosk simply can’t dial — it never falls back to an open phone.

Who can a student call?
Only the guardians the school has approved, within the calling window the school sets.
Can students browse or open other apps?
